The WebSLR Java Applet was unable to start. There are two possible causes for this.

1. The mostly likely reason that WebSLR does not start is that Java is disabled on your browser or the browser does not support Java. Internet Explorer and Netscape once came with Java but now you must ask for it explicitly. These instructions are for Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 6.2. Slightly different procedures may be needed for other versions.
   • Internet Explorer.
     First verify that Java is enabled. Go to "Tools", select "Internet Options..." and click on the "Security" tab. Now press the "Custom Level..." button and scroll down until you see a category labeled "Java permissions". Make sure "Disable Java" is not checked. WebSLR will work with "High Safety".

     If there are no Java security options or that did not solve the problem, you will need to install the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The JVM was available in most Window OS's before Windows XP. Unfortunately, due to a lawsuit between Microsoft and Sun, the JVM is no longer included in Windows XP.

     Instead you can Download and install Java directly from Sun. Just follow the instructions to install it. Installation is very easy but you may need to restart your browser when it is done.

   • Netscape.
     To enable Java in Netscape, go to "Edit", select "Preferences" and click on "Advanced" in the left panel. Make sure both "Enable Java" and "Enable JavaScript for Navigator" are checked.

     If this does not fix the problem, download and install the latest version of Netscape. On one of the popup screens, check "Full" setup, not "Recommended" Setup. "Full" includes support for Java. Then following the remaining instructions.
